Treacle Tart

  • RECIPE MAKES: 8 portions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 190°C/fan 170°C/gas mark 5.

Step 2

Rub the Fate low protein all-purpose mix and the margarine together using your fingers in a mixing bowl until it looks like chunky crumbs.

Step 3

In a bowl, mix the sugar and water, until the sugar has disappeared. Stir in the Fate mixture to make a  pastry dough.

Step 4

Leave to rest for 10 minutes.

Step 5

Spread some Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix onto a clean work top and using your fists squash the pastry until smooth.

Step 6

Using a rolling pin, roll the pastry out between two pieces of grease proof paper, to a 28cm diameter circle. (Adult)

Step 7

Using the rolling pin lift the pastry circle into the baking tin making sure that you press the edges to the sides of the tin. (Adult)

Step 8

Leave to stand for 5 minutes and cut the excess pastry off the sides. (Adult)

Step 9

Blitz the low protein bread into a breadcrumb consistency, then pour into a bowl and mix well with the egg replacer, lemon juice and syrup. (Adult)

Step 10

Using a spoon put the mixture onto the pastry and spread out evenly.

Step 11

Bake in the oven on the middle shelf for 30 minutes.(Adult)

  • 250g Fate Low Protein All-Purpose Mix (plus extra for dusting)
  • 125g Soft Margarine
  • 30g Sugar
  • 60ml Water
  • For filling:
  • 170g Mevalia Pan Carré
  • 465g Golden syrup
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice
  • 2 tsp Egg replacer
  • For this recipe you will need a blender and 24cm baking tin
